The British Army created the image of the 'Red Beret' when in 1940 Winston Churchill, having noted the German successes with airborne troops ordered the creation of a British Airborne Corps. Since then the Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces have been associated with rapid assaults, seizing objectives and stubborn defences.
