Product Description
This is a very unusual pewter sculpture and features a Pacific Frigate bird resting on rocks. The Frigate bird holds its wings out in in this classic pose to cool their bodies. The sculpture was made in conjunction with 25 Engineer Regiment and commemorates the Regiment's role in preparing Pacific Islands for Nuclear Bmb Testing in the 1950's.
One of the Islands chosen was a haven for Frigate Birds and as part of their brief 25 Engineer Regiment personnel captured as many Frigate Birds as possible after which they were taken to other islands for subsequent release.
This sculpture is a miniature of the full sized bird in the regiment's Officers Mess and measures 8" across the wings.
