Product Description

Light Company Sergeant of the 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment 1813.
At this moment the 4th Division under Cole with 4,000 British troops, and without orders from Beresford, rushed to the support of the now badly mauled 2nd Division. The survivors, shoulder to shoulder, fought the French to a standstill, and then forced them back. Like the tide turning, the French infantry sensed a sure victory snatched from them, and they started to withdraw. The battle of Albuera had resulted in a victory mainly due to the stubborn infantry who refused to recognise defeat even when it was staring them in the face. Napier wrote, "no one could stop that astonishing infantry"
The 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment lost a quarter of their men in this, their first battle of the Peninsular War.
